Your privacy and security are important to us, which is why all meetings on our platform are encrypted via a secure connection.

What is encryption and why is it important?

Encryption is the process of transforming information into a code that cannot be easily understood by anyone who does not have the key to decrypt it. Encryption is commonly used to secure data during transmission over the internet or to protect sensitive information stored on a device.

What is the difference between end-to-end encryption and regular encryption?

Regular encryption, also known as transport or in-transit encryption, encrypts data during transmission between two endpoints. For example, when you use a website that has "https" in the URL, your data is encrypted as it travels from your device to the website's server. This type of encryption ensures that data is protected from unauthorized access while in transit. This is important when sending sensitive information such as financial data, personal information, or intellectual property.

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is a more secure form of encryption that encrypts data in such a way that only the sender and the intended recipient can access it. With E2EE, the data is encrypted on the sender's device, stays encrypted during transmission, and can only be decrypted by the recipient's device. This means that even if someone intercepts the data, they will not be able to read it because they do not have the decryption key.

E2EE is commonly used to protect users' private conversations from hackers and other ‘bad actors’. Regular encryption is still important for securing data during transmission, but E2EE provides an additional layer of security by ensuring that only the intended recipient can access the data.

End-to-end encryption is not available with all subscriptions. Check with your account admin if you don't have access.

When should I use E2EE for video meetings?

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) can be important for video meetings where an extra layer of security and privacy is required for the participants. For example, if sensitive or confidential information such as medical or legal records are being discussed that should not be shared with unauthorized parties.

E2EE ensures that only the participants of the video meeting can access the content of that meeting. Preventing anyone, including the service provider or third-party companies, from accessing the video meeting content.

How do I enable E2EE for my meetings?

During an ongoing meeting: Select ‘More’ on the left in the bottom toolbar and click ‘Turn on end-to-end encryption’.

End-to-end encryption is supported when using:

  • Google Chrome (Windows, Mac, & Android)

  • Microsoft Edge (Windows & Mac)

  • Desktop app (Windows & Mac)

Current Limitations with E2EE meetings

Some functionality is disabled when using E2EE as these features can not yet be encrypted ‘end-to-end’. Currently, the following features do not support End-to-end encryption: live call captions, text chat, breakout rooms, and the whiteboard.

End-to-end encryption is NOT currently supported when using:

  • Safari

  • Firefox

  • All iOS devices (iPhones and iPads)

  • Mobile apps

If a participant joins a meeting from an unsupported device or browser when End-to-end encryption has already been turned on, this will automatically disable End-to-end encryption in the meeting and notify all participants.
